Summer Streets
Summer Streets is an annual celebration of New York City's most valuable public space – our streets.
On select summer Saturdays our city’s usual traffic noise and honking horns will be replaced with open streets teeming with walkers, bikers, runners, and performers. Discover a wealth of free cultural programs, performances, fitness classes, interactive art, giveaways, and much more as you experience the city in this whole new way.

Public Art
The NYC DOT Art program brings dynamic one-day
installations to rest stops during Summer Streets. In Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and on Staten
Island, Josh Cohen's Big Spinning Wheels
kinetic sculptures create hypnotic optical patterns as attendees spin the pieces.
Find the NYC Art Stop Letters at rest stops along the routes! Snap a photo with life-sized NYC letters featuring four unique designs by two illustrators:
NYC Art Stop Letters: Saturation by Amanda Lobos: Created for NYC Summer Streets 2026, this work floods the urban landscape with creatures, patterns, and forms that overflow their own definitions. Festive and excessive by design, the illustrations treat summer as a state of abundance, where public space is claimed through joy, ornament, and the radical act of taking up room.
NYC Art Stop Letters: NYC in Motion by Grace Park: Grace Park's design transforms the letters “NYC” into a vibrant 3D world inspired by the energy of Summer Streets. Using isometric forms, Park turned the letters into spaces that people can explore, filled with activity zones representing movement, creativity, community, and everyday New York life. The piece brings together elements like sports, art, and neighborhood moments, all connected by a continuous NYC backdrop. Overall, it celebrates Summer Streets as a playful, welcoming space where people and the city come together.
