Information Technology Management Academy

For more than 20 years, the NYC Management Academy has equipped mid-level managers and emerging leaders who may be relatively new to City government with a grounding in fundamental management principles and best practices. The rigorous three (3) month journey delivers strategies, skills, and acumen needed to meet the unique demands of managing within a City government environment.

Program Overview

The NYC Information Technology (IT) Management Academy is a unique and distinctive program designed for experienced IT leaders who have positions of significant responsibility in IT at their agencies.

The program focuses on three (3) objectives: People, Processes and IT Management.

  • People: Participants will expand skills in leadership, executive communication, and managing IT teams.
  • Processes: Participants will gain essential knowledge in procurement, budgeting, and labor relations to better manage IT operations and resources with executive leadership.
  • IT Management: Participants will learn best practices from IT executives to address real-life scenarios that speak to the City’s unique management challenges.

The program runs one (1) full day per week from Thursday August 14, 2025, to Thursday October 30, 2025.

Who Should be Nominated?

IT Management Academy nominees should be City employees who:

  • Are serving as a director or above
  • Are responsible for the design and/or implementation of City programs or procedures within the IT field
  • Have demonstrated superb technical competence in their areas of expertise
  • Have demonstrated a strong commitment to public service and aspire to positions of greater responsibility in the field of IT

How to Nominate Someone?

Submit a completed nomination package that includes:

  • Nominee information
  • Short written responses
  • Signed manager information and statement of understanding
  • Agency head and Chief Information Officer (CIO) endorsements
  • Nominee’s updated resume

Completed forms should be submitted to ITManagementAcademy@oti.nyc.gov, copying ExecutiveDevelopment@dcas.nyc.gov.

Selection Criteria/Process

A review panel from the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) and the Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) evaluates applications based on leadership potential and impact to their current role, commitment to public service, strong communication and collaboration skills and agency support.

Space is limited, and selection is competitive.
