NEW YORK – Today, New York City Mayor's Office for International Affairs Commissioner Ana María Archila and Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs Commissioner Faiza N. Ali released the following joint statement in response to the deadly flooding and mudslides that struck Nepal and Tibet on August 26:

“Extreme flooding and mudslides swept through parts of Nepal and Tibet this week, resulting in the loss of hundreds of lives, widespread destruction, and many people still missing. Families are grieving loved ones, searching for relatives, and confronting the loss of homes, livelihoods, and community infrastructure.

“The disaster is also being felt here in New York City, where Nepalese and Tibetan communities are anxiously awaiting information about the safety of family members, friends and loved ones in the affected areas.

“As our offices continue to learn more about the scale and impact of this climate disaster, we will share reliable information and resources with New Yorkers seeking to locate or support loved ones. We encourage New Yorkers to support relief efforts that are underway and check in on friends and neighbors during this difficult time.”
