HPV Vaccine Action Kit

New HPV Fact Sheet for Pediatricians and Providers

This factsheet contains recommendations, helpful talking points, and messages for those who may be hesitant to vaccinate. The HPV vaccine protects against human papillomavirus (HPV) and prevents up to 90% of six HPV-related cancers, including cervical, throat, and penile cancers.

Each year in the U.S., over 40,000 people get cancer caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV vaccination is the most effective way to prevent these painful or deadly illnesses. HPV vaccine can be given starting at age 9 and is routinely recommended at ages 11 to 12. It is important to administer the vaccine during these ages when HPV acquisition is low and the immune response to the vaccine is more robust. Unfortunately, New York City’s HPV vaccination rates fall dramatically short of the 2030 national goal of 80 percent for series completion. Health care providers play a critical role in increasing HPV vaccination rates, and this toolkit offers helpful strategies and tools.
