NYC Health Department Launches Abortion Service in Brooklyn

No to Low-cost Medication Abortion Availability at the Fort Greene Sexual Health Clinic Marks Fourth City Public Health Clinic to Offer the Service

July 23, 2025 — The New York City Health Department today announced the expansion of no to low-cost medication abortion services to the Fort Greene Sexual Health Clinic in Brooklyn as part of an ongoing commitment to supporting access to reproductive health care. Confidential services are available for anyone seeking care, regardless of insurance or immigration status.

“The New York City Health Department is committed to ensuring access to affordable abortion care for everyone seeking services in New York City,” said Acting Health Commissioner Dr. Michelle Morse. “Abortion care is banned or highly restricted in 19 states and has come under attack by the federal government. New York City is proud to be a beacon for access to essential sexual and reproductive health care.”

Since launching the first municipally funded clinic service of its kind in Morrisania in 2023, the city has provided more than 2,100 patients with high quality, compassionate abortion care at the three Sexual Health Clinics offering the service. Most patients report being uninsured, residents of high poverty neighborhoods, and Black or Latino.

The Health Department’s experienced clinicians also counsel patients on and provide birth control including the ring, patch, pills, shot, emergency contraception, and intrauterine devices (IUD) by appointment. To further support patient’s health holistically, clinics offer low and no-cost prevention, testing, and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including prevention, testing, and treatment initiation for HIV, and supportive services for patients, such as counseling and service navigation.

In 2022, the Health Department launched the Abortion Access Hub to help patients who are seeking an abortion or are in need of resources related to travel, cost or lodging in New York City. Confidential calls are fielded by live navigators, who are available to speak in multiple languages and directly connect callers to partner organizations as appropriate.

Appointments for abortion services can be made by calling the NYC Sexual Health Clinic Hotline at 347-396-7959. Walk-ins are also accepted until 2 p.m. For connection to resources or help accessing abortion services, call 877-NYC-AHUB.
