Weekly Resurfacing Schedule
During resurfacing season, NYC DOT posts a weekly schedule of milling and paving work happening in all five boroughs.
Milling is the process of grinding off the top layer of asphalt or surface of a roadway. This is usually done in preparation for paving, although there are exceptions where no milling or only partial milling is needed. Resurfacing is the process of placing an asphalt overlay on a roadway, whether or not it has been milled. The milling process is noisy and may cause discomfort in the affected neighborhood for several days. Much of the work is done at night in order to minimize disruptions to traffic. Although NYC DOT takes steps to minimize the inconvenience, milling requires trucks, special machinery and portable lights. To minimize disruption, machinery is fitted with noise reduction equipment and crews attempt to keep noise to a minimum.

Work Zone Safety
NYC DOT keeps NYC moving. Help keep our crews safe.
Be Patient
Milling and paving may temporarily disrupt your routine for a short period of time, but street improvements will last for years to come.
Be Kind
Our crews are delivering a much-needed public service. Treat us like your neighbor. Harassment and physical violence will not be tolerated. Violators can and will be prosecuted.
Be Safe
Crossing into a work zone area can create unsafe conditions for you and our crews. Asphalt can reach temperatures of over 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Entering a work zone can damage personal property, or roadway, and ultimately delay work.
