{{FirstName or 'New Yorkers'}}, hello from City Hall! Across our five boroughs, New Yorkers depend on their city government to improve their quality of life today and set up our future generations to thrive. That’s exactly what our administration has done since coming into office — from investing in historic amounts of affordable housing to investing in our public safety to driving crime down to records lows and more.
When we invest in our people, we help make our city the best place to raise a family now and for years to come. This past week, we acted to: |
- Help New Yorkers in need on our subways – We celebrated the one-year anniversary of our public safety and social services outreach initiative that connects New Yorkers living in the subway system with services, such as shelter, food, medical care, and mental health support. To date, our teams have made over 20,100 contacts and provided services to New Yorkers more than 6,100 times. This builds on our work to both end the culture of “anything goes” and help New Yorkers with severe mental illness.
- Keep streets safe for all on the road – Our NYC Department of Transportation just got promising new data that traffic fatalities across the city have dropped 18% through the first nine months of 2025. They've reached near-record lows thanks to our administration’s investments in safer streets for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
- Finance more affordable housing – New York City issued its fourth round of General Obligation Social Bonds, an innovative way to finance more affordable housing construction. Our administration started this technique to sell bonds to investors and use all the revenue towards building 100% affordable housing. This round will help finance 2,200 more units of affordable housing!

↳ Three things to know this week:
- The FDNY is giving away free smoke detectors as part of their “Get Alarmed NYC” campaign, a partnership with the American Red Cross. The citywide initiative was first launched in 2015 after the tragic deaths of seven children in a fire that year. Since then, the FDNY has installed more than 300,000 smoke alarms and counting. Sign up for your free installation here.
- You have the right to a warm home! "Heat Season” is in effect now through May 31. During this period, building owners are required to keep apartments adequately heated, regardless of outdoor temperatures. Hot water must also be provided year-round. If your building isn’t meeting the city’s requirements, call 311 or make a report online.
- Ever wanted to have a dog for a day? Consider checking out a dog from the Animal Care Centers of NYC through their “BoroughBreak” initiative! In this volunteer program, New Yorkers can give a dog a break from the shelter and take them on fun outings to the beach, on a short road trip, or just to chill in your comfortable apartment for the day. Learn more here to get started!
