{{FirstName or 'New Yorkers'}}, hello from City Hall!
When we implement new ideas to fix age-old problems, we deliver real results for New York City’s families. By putting money back in New Yorkers’ pockets, uplifting our city employees with free child care, and investing in critical infrastructure, transportation, and affordable housing in a long-overlooked community, we’re making great strides to make this city the best place to raise your family. This past week, we acted to: |
- Wipe out $135 million in medical debt – Our administration has already helped cancel $135 million in medical debt for 75,000 New Yorkers through a pioneering partnership we launched last year. And we’re not done — over three years, we plan to eliminate $2 billion in medical debt for 500,000 New Yorkers! To further prevent New Yorkers from accumulating medical debt in the future, we also just opened eight free Financial Empowerment Centers in public hospitals to provide vital personalized counseling.
- Support a family-first city workplace — We just announced an exciting pilot program that will provide on-site, free childcare for some of our municipal employees starting in September 2026! This is how we lead by example and make our city more affordable for working-class families, while also incentivizing more New Yorkers to come work for the best employer in the five boroughs.
- Transform the flood-prone Jewel Streets area — After decades of excuses by past administrations and two years of community engagement over issues of persistent flooding, traffic safety, and lack of housing by our administration, we unveiled our comprehensive plan for the Jewel Streets area in Brooklyn and Queens. The plan will install climate-resilient infrastructure, help build 5,000 new affordable homes, create safer streets, and ensure more economic development opportunities.

↳ Three things to know this week:
- Starting tomorrow, October 24, a new 15 MPH citywide speed limit will be in place for e-bikes, e-scooters, and pedal-assist commercial bicycles. This update mirrors best practices from around the world, including the European Union, and ensures safer streets for everyone!
- Now through the wintertime is when flu cases tend to rise, so it's a great time to book your flu shot appointment. Our city’s Health Department has made it easy to book an appointment near you with their interactive map. Just select what vaccine you’re looking for and if you do or don’t have insurance to find no-cost and low-cost appointments!
- Our city has been breaking records for the most jobs in city history, and an exciting opportunity could be waiting for you! Check out our Jobs NYC site to explore current openings in both the private sector and municipal government, as well as free training to develop your resume and land your dream role.
