From May 2nd to May 6th, DOB is celebrating Construction Safety Week with educational outreach events held throughout the City and online.

All this week, we are hosting Digital Build: Safety, Innovation & Sustainability Conference, a free virtual construction safety and Code conference, with seminars presented by DOB experts. Seminars during the conference have been approved for free continuing education credits for participating Registered Design Professionals.

Along with our agency partners at OSHA and the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, DOB staff will be visiting construction sites in all five boroughs with our DOB safety-branded food truck, giving out free lunch and talking directly with contractors and workers about construction site safety.

DOB has also released a new public service announcement video to air on television, and ads to appear in subway cars across the City, to further boost our outreach efforts, and spread the important message about construction safety.

DOB's annual no-penalty inspection programs for decks, porches, retaining walls and business signs is back.

Anytime in the month of May, property owners and small business owners can contact 311 to request a free DOB inspection of these outdoor structures, at no cost and without risk of penalties.

If any unsafe conditions are discovered during the inspection, DOB will provide guidance on any issues that need to be fixed without issuing any violations or penalties, allowing owners the opportunity to make corrective repairs and ensure their property is safe.
